It's merciless all this week in London, with temperatures well over 30 Celsius. And beware: a bicycle saddle can apparently reach 60 if left in the sun. Which is clearly twice as hot as 30. So here's your Top Ten Tips on coping with the heat while cycling round the capital: • When buying ice-lolly to eat while cycling along, choose safe, reflective flavour such as strawberry or lemon • Stay cool emotionally by not shouting at car drivers whose air-conditioners will drown you out – concentrate on the open-tops • Warmed-up fizzy drinks will spray a sticky mess everywhere if opened before they've settled – useful against pedestrians who cross on red • Develop a taste for neat whisky to avoid transporting ice • Car drivers stuck in jams get even more bad-tempered, so take games, quizzes etc to cheer them up • Stick to medical guidelines of at least eight glasses of alcohol per day, and no more than three units of water • Sunburn can be bad enough to warrant a day off work, so plan carefully • Avoid showing embarrassing underarm wet patches by not giving hand signals • Clear the queue for the shower on arrival at work by wearing sombrero, coughing • Wait three days till it gets cold and windy again From the RealCycling BlogTags: bike, funny, public Feeling: amused

- Get Java to work on Seamonkey - Change theme so that tabs aren't almost the same colour when active/inactive - Find a workaround for my DiNovo keyboard/mouse buttons - Figure out why FF is half-opening again - See if can get F5 to refresh in Seamonkey - Lookup why system default for mouse is failing (says 6 lines, moves 3. Moves 3 no matter what number is set) - Check web to see if VLC can be minimised to system tray, set to auto-open in dosd - Install Filezilla, Handbrake (not updated for Kubuntu 9.04) and my printer drivers (unavailable) manually - Find out if can save Pidgin status' for use if do clean install/XP Today I have installed Seamonkey 1.1.17 twice. I have it down to a tee now. I also know to open as root to install my add-ons such as Ad-Block, UK dictionary. I also know to chmod the dictionary prefs as it's read-only for root. I also discovered the reason why SM and NoScript weren't getting along; the new version of NS does not play well with SM. So used previous version. Tried to install CS Lite to try but new SM version doesn't like that either. I went through six profile folders today! Tags: kubuntu, public, to do

Poll #1397993 Keeping in Touch
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 10 Which do you use to keep in touch with people, etc? Other? Which is your favourite? Ticky boxes make the world a better place? With people getting all excited about Dreamwidth (not that I know why or what), this poll crept into my mind. Fill and discuss why whichever is your favourite...or else! Livejournal isn't an answer for the first question due to the fact it's a given if answering this poll. :) Tags: poll, public

10.You have vivid waking dreams of Tricia Helfer… No wait, that’s perfectly normal. 9. Having so many Starbucks around town finally begins to make sense. 8. You’ve started taunting all the pussies who still carry phasers at conventions. 7. You’ve taken the time to tear the corners off all the sheets of paper in your printer. 6. On the way home from work, you pull over to scout for the proper star configurations. 5. Upon purchasing a new appliance, you immediately call the manufacturer to make sure the appliance’s inhibitor chip is in place. 4. There are signs of machine gun strafing across the kitchen nook where your toaster used to be kept… the sneaky bastard. 3. Whenever your significant other begins talking in her sleep, you immediately begin asking her for directions. 2. You can’t get a good night’s sleep anymore because you need to change location every thirty-three minutes. 1. Anytime someone turns on a stereo in the next room, you begin wigging out because “There’s music IN THE FRAKING WALLS!” …and finally, you know that you’re really, truly had too much when… In a desperate ploy to extend the BattleStar Galactica experience, you’re stubbornly hold fast to your theory that ties other franchises into the BSG storyline, claiming, for instance, that the only way they could possibly shoot a sequel to Donnie Darko is if Donnie were Roslin’s Cylon-hybrid love child. It seems asking bloomoo is a little useless as he hasn't used KDE since KDE3. :) So here's a list of stuff I need to sort out: - commands list for terminal (as not so geeky to have learnt them) - getting Adept to work. Currently the "View" list is not showing or accessible - perhaps removing AVG (not showing on Adept so guess I need to go through terminal) and swapping for Clam - enabling my extra mouse buttons (found a way via terminal/xorg.conf). I find it hard to live without my back, forward and double click buttons. Also horizontal scroll. (EDIT: Hmm, back/forward buttons are working with Firefox) - enabling my extra keyboard buttons. Having to cope without F5/refresh right now - looking for hosts file so I can copy across the one from Windows - wondering why mouse only scrolls three lines even when set at 12 or even 6 (page down/up seems fine though) - wondering how to change the selected items colour in browsers - a range of Seamonkey problems and it is my preferred browser: - looking for the training.dat and filters.dat (located in profile folder) so I can copy across my saved ones - figuring out why NoScript and Adblock aren't working though seems to be in Firefox (can't just add the same way I did in XP) Tags: geek, kubuntu, public
